Dollywood is the Tennessee destination for three million American and international visitors each year.
Dominating the town of Pigeon Forge, on the edge of the Smoky Mountains where our heroine spent her childhood, the resort is a co-venture between Dolly and the US theme park specialists Herschend.
The park is conceptualised around an Appalachian theme, with crafts, food and (of course) music heavily featured.
But if this seems a tiny bit homely and wholesome to the non-country-music lovers amongst you, then you might want to think again – the resort’s a genuinely huge undertaking, packed with rides that rival any in the world, including some satisfactorily terrifying roller coaster experiences (until recently, Dollywood’s ‘Lightning Rod’ was classified as the fastest wooden coaster in the world).
And once you’ve recovered from that, head out into town to relax at the myriad other uniquely American attractions that have sprung up around the resort… from the Alcatraz Museum of Crime, to the Hollywood Wax Museum, to the Titanic Museum (shaped like the RMS Titanic itself, naturally).
Back to our leading lady for your bonus question: a cover version of one of Dolly Parton’s 1970’s hits became the best-selling single of all time by a female artist… who was that artist?

Whitney Houston took Dolly’s 1974 hit ‘I Will Always Love You’ into the 1990’s stratosphere, selling over 24 million units, prompting thousands of regrettable karaoke attempts, and doubtless funding an extra roller coaster or two for the original song’s genius creator.
